It happened just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Luigi’s Restaurant at 170 Post Road in Fairfield.
The first responding officer saw a man wearing a striped shirt running from the back of the building, according to Fairfield Police. The suspect jumped a fence into an adjacent lot and ran behind the stores in the shopping center.
Several patrols set up a perimeter around Longview Avenue and Post Road. A K-9 track was set up with a Fairfield Police officer and K9 Maverick. K9 Maverick tracked Longview Avenue and located the suspect hiding underneath a work van.
A survey of the Luigi’s Restaurant property determined that a window on the side of the restaurant was broken out. It was also discovered that a window to an adjacent business, Castle On Post at 222 Post Road, was broken out and a burglary occurred there as well.
Officers also located several items of evidence, including a cash register behind a dumpster in the rear of Luigi’s, which was determined to be taken from Castle On Post.
After a walkthrough with the owner of Luigi’s, it was determined that the suspect never gained entry to the building. Further review of the surveillance video revealed the same suspect in the rear of Luigi’s, walking toward the side of the building where the window was broken out.
Juan Carlos Rax, 28, of Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and interfering for the burglary at Castle On Post.
Rax was also charged with third-degree criminal attempt to commit burglary and Interfering for the attempted burglary at Luigi’s Restaurant.
Rax is being held on a total bond of $50,000.00 and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
